About the Author

Hello there, lovely. I am so excited that you have stumbled across my blog, but  I am even more thrilled that you have clicked on this link to get to know more about me.

For starters, my name is Emily. But, you can call me Em, Emdawg or EmGem (as one of my students says), I don’t mind. I am twenty-three years old, living in Toronto and working as a tutor. I graduated from Brock University in 2016 with a degree in Honours Psychology. With that being said, I’m a psych nerd. I just love it. A lot.

To say that I have been through a lot in my 23 years is an understatement. I guess you can say that I am living proof that human beings can be resilient. ____________________________________________________

I have been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, major depressive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and borderline personality disorder. Whew, that was a mouthful. It’s safe to say that mental illness plays a large role in my life; however, these disorders are only a part of me. They aren’t me in full, and they never will be.

In addition to the above, I battled cancer in twenty fourteen. Specifically, I beat the hell out of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. I’m now in remission and I don’t plan on that changing. I am also a survivor of common-law domestic abuse. This is extremely new for me to openly talk about, so excuse me as I try to find the right words.

Well, I assume that you’re bored by now and if you’re still reading, thank you for not giving up on me. You rock!

As for my future posts, I promise to stay real and honest. There will be no sugar-coating here. This is a blog of pure human emotion. Happiness, sadness, excitement, anxiety, grief, fear and joy. This is a blog of hope.

Love and happiness,
